Replacing Starter in 2009 Toyota Camry: How difficult?

Need to replace starter in 2009 Toyota Camry. Not an expert by any means but haven't tried this one before. What should I be aware of going into this project?

Is that a 4 banger or a V-6?

And Toyota starters are pretty durable; are you sure it's the starter?

Sounds about right; a bit quicker on a 4 cyl with less in the way. I'm wondering about his troubleshooting because those starters rarely fail, it's usually worn/burnt contacts in the solenoid which can be replaced at a fraction the cost of a starter (which are sometimes badly remanned).

I tend to agree with the_tow_guy about making sure the starter itself is the problem. If the starter motor does nothing when you turn the key you need to make sure the small solenoid wire is getting power when you do.

If not, that can often point to a faulty neutral safety switch instead of the starter motor.

You can try shifting the transmission into neutral, wiggling the shifter, etc and see if the starter motor engages if the part above is true. That may let you know if the neutral switch has failed although that's not a 100%d definitive test.
