2003 Chevy Malibu - unintended key rotation, cylinder replacement?

I have a 2003 Chevy Malibu, base model, with the unintended key rotation problem. GM wants to "shave" off some of the plastic on the key head as their only recall solution. But this will not work for my car as I use the old style keys that are just thin metal - nothing to "shave off". So I was thinking of replacing the key cylinder myself - but all the parts I see on line include the PassLock circuit. As far as I know my car does not have GM's PassLock system - the keys are just plain metal and there is nothing to program when I get new keys. Are the keys part of PassLock or is PassLock just within the ignition (so I may still have it even with just plain keys)? To solve my problem, what parts do I need to replace - the cylinder? The cylinder housing? Or the electronic switch that sits behind the cylinder/housing or all three? Thanks.

For those not aware of this GM issue..... in certain models the drivers knee could possibly hit the ignition key and cause it to come out of the run position.

If you had anti theft/Passlock there would be a blinking yellow light [SECURITY] on the dash just to the left of 0 in the tachometer. On your car, if it had Passlock, it just looks for the tumbler to turn. There is no transponder in the key. There are a few good you tube videos on replacing the tumbler as well as bypassing an intermittent Passlock system.
