Stuck vent control

2005 GMC Safari.

A/C is working but all of a sudden the vent control is stuck in the floor vent position.

What is broken and is it a fix I can do?

Is there any resistance in the knob? If so, maybe something is binding. If not, something snapped. Could be the cable. Pull the console and have a look.

The control knob turns freely. In fact the first warning of trouble was the other day when I switched it from floor to dash vent and it took about 15 seconds for it to kick in. Since then it is stuck back at the floor position where I last left it. I'm not sure but I though that the vent doors are controlled via solenoid, or maybe a resistor in the switch might be shot.

Further investigation points to a broken or leaking vacuum line. Now the challenge is to find that vacuum line.

My fault. Wasn't sure if yours was cable driven or electronic/vacuum driven.
