Question Trumpeting noise from Jeep AC

Jeep Cherokee 2004, AC runs fine but makes occasional brief trumpeting sound while driving, then a sustained version after the engine is shut off. More embarassing than problematic, but not sure if a symptom of something expensive. Difficult to pinpoint, but seems to come from passenger side firewall area behind glove box. Seems to be AC related, if I flip to heat or shut off AC about a block before parking it doesn't happen. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Isn't that where the fan is located? I know that you said that if you switch to heat, it won't happen but it still sounds like a fan bearing. Disconnect it as a test.
