Measuring tire pressure always leaks air?

I have some digital tire pressure gauge that is highly rated. They worked fine when new, but after 2 years, air tends to leak when I push the gauge onto the valve stem until I align the gauge at the exact angle and push hard on it.
This means I have to inflate the tire no matter what, which is annoying.

Is there a solution for this problem?

The gauge may be highly rated because it's accurate.... not for its durability. The rubber seals tend to dry out on many of those gauges. A little silicone or 3in1 oil on the rubber seal would help.

I think the solution is to get a new tire gauge. There are plenty available for under $20.

Tape

There is probably no rubber seal in the chuck, or one that failed or fell out. Get some 3M rubber self sealing tape, use a hold punch and make a little gasket to slip into the chuck. The cheaper gauges all have your problem, even some of the expensive ones have seals that don't last very long.
