Honda CRV 2017

Hi
There are 4 screws holding the cover to the air cleaner down.
Do I need a special "cross" screwdriver or will a flathead do it
I think it is criss cross so a single blade won't strain it and crack it.
What is the name of the tool?
Thanks

These are the basic four types of screw heads encountered in an auto.
It sounds like you are describing a Philips head screw.

You are right it is a cross slot phillips but I do not know if it is number two - I think so & I have one with 4 blades.
The book says to loosen not remove so you can lift the cover.
Your diagram seems to suggest you can use a regular philips head to do the job; what do you think?
Thanks a lot.

Looking at pictures online, they look like the screws I'm used to in our two Accords. #2 Philips works for me every time. It says loosen, not remove, because (at least on the Accord) they are captive screws, so they won't come all the way out of the air filter cover and get lost. Just loosen them up until the cover comes free.

When you're reinstalling, they should be tightened snug enough to secure the cover. Don't keep cranking on them, because some people have deformed or even cracked the air filter box plastic. (They must be absolute gorillas to try to do that, though. It's always been obvious to me when it's good enough.)
