Intermittent starting problem 1993 Honda Accord
I got a 1993 Honda Accord has a strong crank don’t start go back several hours later starts right up. When it would not start I checked spark plugs with ignition tester and they were getting fire. I sprayed starting fluid into air intake still would not start. The fuel pressure regulator had no gas coming out of vacuum hose when would not start. I can hear fuel pump come on. This has gone on several months and don’t drive it much but it’s cheap on gas would like to figure out problem. Any ideas. Thanks.

with an intermittent problem like this typically you would be losing spark or not getting fuel due to fuel pressure or lack of injector pulse next time the problem occurs would recheck spark, check for injector pulse with a noid light and if it has those 2 would check fuel pressure might also look at all your dash lights that come on when the car is starting and see if you notice any difference in them when the car will not start.

Thanks for your reply I actually sprayed starting fluid in throttle body did not even attempt to start. I was wondering if maybe sensor or computer issue. Or could oil drip into spark plugs and attempting to start it burns it off someway and hours later it would start. When it starts can drive it and it restarts no problem occurs when sits a few days.

have you tried applying throttle to see if it makes a difference perhaps it could be flooded so the problem only occurs when the engine is cold and has set for a few days?

I had a similar problem with a 95 Integra: it would usually start just fine but if i didn't turn the key hard over the same way every time, it would act like it was flooded and it had to sit for some hours before it would start.
For me the fix was to clean the inside of the throttle body with acetone on a rag. At first the rag will come out full of carbon. Keep changing out the rag with fresh acetone until the rag stays clean.
Good luck with it!

Hondas are pretty basic on their no start issues.
They are related to:
1. bad or going bad main relay. I sort of feel that that's the case, as intermittent points towards this. Their main relay is sealed inside with a tar like substance that can cause this type of on-off issues.
2. ignition lock
3. Bad distributor components, ignitor and coil.

You can check if it works quite easily. Main relay is roughly in front of your left knee sitting in driver seat.
It produces 3 distinct clicks when you turn key in lock. So insert your key, make sure there is no distracting noise, turn key into position one. Did you hear click coming from dash there? Then, into position 2. Click? That, actually, turns fuel pump on. 3rd click is hard to catch as it's right before starter turns on, when you turn key one more time.
I honestly doubt it's throttle body. TB would have given you continuous grief slowly getting worse.
It's something electrical. Main relay or ignition lock, Hondas are known for lock issues. As basic as it is, I had them apart.

Carbon canister saturated will cause this. Have you been topping off the gas when filling. This is a common cause of this.
