which tire to buy

I have a 2012 prius two it has goodyear eagle ls2 tires on it. I am looking at replacing them. they have about 40k miles on them with about 5/32nds tread left. right now I can get some pretty good prices on tires. I am looking at three tires to replace them.

1 goodyear eagle ls2 89s
2 goodyear assurance all season 91t
3 pirelli p4 four seasons plus 91t they are all 195/65/15

I read the reviews and just get confused. I am looking for a good year round, mostly highway tire. anyone have any pros or cons on these brands or tires?

Yokohama. BEST tires I ever had. Also, something's wrong with your alignment, tires should last longer than that.

I agree that something is wrong if all you got from the original tires was 40,000 miles. Makes me think you've been drag racing that Prius. The last two sets of tires I have bought were both BF Goodrich, but this last set hasn't been up to what I considered their usual standards. Now I have a set of Goodyear Wranglers that I haven't formed an opinion on yet. If I were you I'd get the alignment checked and then look into a set of Michelins.

The original tires were Yokonhoma Avid S33D's or Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max. Hard compounds wear very well, give good fuel milage but can be a bit harder riding than others.

The Pirelli P4's are great all around tires. They are mid pack priced and probably the best bet of the tires you note.

For year round highway use, on your light weight vehicle, truely any tire will be fine. But quality control varies, the main brands generally have better quality control. I would try to get tires from a US or Euro factory. Some odd Chinese brands were tested by Consumers Reports, and braking, noise, etc. were not good. Don't cheap out on tires, they are important.

More important is the date code, which is molded on the side of every tire. You should specifically ask for a date code no more than one year old, or else discount the tire significantly. The tire compounds degrade over time more than most realise. Often very good tire deals are uninformed customers lloking a for "deals" but getting old stock cleared out. Not great for a car you plan to keep and whose tires you intend to wear out.

soft

The P4's had a very good ride for me, maybe too good for those who want a sport tire, but I wanted the comfort and wet grip for what was a grocery getter car. I go for Pirelli P7 All Season Plus on all my cars, which includes dailies plus an old vintage red car. I don't they are available in your size, maybe they are, but they are best tire I have ever had, at any price point.

OP, you need LRR tire. Low Rolling Resistance. This is why you had Yokos to start with as they do have just that - LRR tires. My Yokos, on my TCH, did SO well, that I had 2nd set installed. My Yokos on my HiHy ran 20 000 miles over factory warranty, and I got 2nd set.
So again - Yokos do not wear out that fast. Your vehicle has alignment issue OR you never rotate tires.

Did you guys miss that he had 5/32 tread left? That is almost half the tread so his tires have done all right.

If you donít drive enough miles to use the mileage warranty before the tire ages (about 5 years from manufacture) you have lost something you paid for. Most responsible people will not continue to drive with aged tires (possibility of rupture at any time) that have thread life left.

I keep my tires balanced and rotated every 5000 and have the alignment checked. the reason I changed at 5/32nds was that when I went to get the oil changed they told me I could get through the winter, but probably would need replaced in the spring. this is my wife/s daily driver and rather than have her go through the winter with poor traction and iffy tires, I thought it better to replace them now. I bought bf goodrich advantage t/a sport. not the best tire for what I wanted and in hindsight cost me about 3mpg. but they are doing the job, quiet, decent ride, so I guess I will find out in the long run.

My old man worked at a dealership for several years after he retired and just about punched out a guy that had come in looking for used tires since they were only going on the car his wife drove his kids around in.
