95 Taurus Battery Light on only in Reverse.

On my 1995 Ford Taurus the battery charge light will come on when I put car in reverse. Has a new battery and never comes on anytime else.

would probably check the wiring going to the alternator for damage the engine does move back and forth a little is normal with good motor mounts, with bad motor mounts engine movement could be excessive with the light only coming on in reverse its probably wiring issue but you could have the alternator checked also.

If the charge light stays off with the engine running and the AC and radio turned on, the alternator is good. If the charge light comes on, the alternator needs testing. Next, have someone verify backup light operation while cycling vehicle between reverse and neutral. If OK, need to verify wire controlling charge lamp. If not OK, need to verify how backup lights are controlled and verify operation.

When you go into reverse, it puts more demand onto the engine. Something about gearing. As the result, your alternator output drops ever so slightly. I'd say, either belt is loose, most likely, or alternator starts underperforming.
