Chrysler 300 Key FOB
Bought new Chrysler 300 Limited last year 2017. Now has 12000 miles. Had to move car this morning and it wouldn't start initially with one of the two Key FOBs in hand. I waited awhile and it did start later, but I got a notice on the dash screen that said the FOB had a low battery. She said she told me last week that that FOB wasn't opening the trunk for her, but she is always complaining about something) I accessed the Chrysler Chat window and the girl said that I have to take it to a dealer to change the battery or risk destruction of the FOB. Is this definitely a dealer repair?

No, I've changed the battery in my 2011 Charger a few times, it's a simple task & basically the same fob, the dealer just wants to make some easy money off you.

Well It looks like you have to crack the case open on the edges. No screws or anything right?

Fob WILL DESTROY ITSELF?
wow. That's some heaviest BS I heard from customer service.
Radio Shack will replace battery for you. You looking at about ten bucks if not less, expense. Replace batteries in both fobs, just in case.
Donno how it works on Chargers, but on Toyota/Lexus, you can hold LOGO against the Start button or door handle sensor, and it should start/open car. In case someone stepped on fob or something. So as far as you have fob piece large enough...
Self destructing fobs... I like that. Straight out of Zoolander or Austin Powers.

Key FOB
The girl on the Chrysler Chat didn't say it would "self destruct". She said that "I" could risk destroying it unless I took it to the dealer. That was when I posted the question to all of you. It irked me more that it was not in the owners manual (how to change the battery) I thought I posted back to you guys that I changed both of them successfully, and am good to go! thanks again!

Hemi Ram Key FOB
I also have a key FOB for a RAM 1500 that has lost its capability to start the Truck remotely. I had a local locksmith replace a button in the FOB which brought it back to life for about two days, then it became inoperable again. I did not pursue the issue with them, as my other FOB still works, but I would not mind suggestions for a cheap fix for this FOB too. It is a 2012 Ram with about 30000 miles on it.

I found out the hard way with my 2011 Charger fob, it would only work with Panasonic batteries which is what came in them when I bought it new, no other brand would work, which makes no sense as they are all the same voltage and battery size.

Interesting, as the batteries I replaced last night were Duracells. The ones that were in it were also Panasonic. When did you find out the brand you were using weren't going to work? The Duracells are working fine for me right now.

I would think that those batteries are made and sold by the thousands from a plant in Indonesia (Panasonic) and probably farmed out under other Brand names, but what happened to you happened. If my Duracells continue to work, I guess I got lucky!

Cheap fix for fobs is to take them apart and get to where the button presses on the contact. that area normally gets greenish oxidized. So you take pencil eraser and clean it.
Also, if fob quit working after battery replacement, a re learning procedure may be needed. It varies from make to make.
