One Loud Clank from rear when you go from park to drive

This is a Kia Sorento has over 100,000 miles. You start the car, put your foot on the break and shift from park to drive and you hear one loud clank. Basically when it goes in gear. It only does it when you go to drive. It just started this.

There is another problem and not sure if the 2 things could be connected. When you take off from a stop, you feel a bouncing/shaking in the front end. But when you get to around 35 it smooths out and you don't feel anything abnormal at higher speeds.

Is it rear wheel drive? sounds like it might be a bad U joint. Somebody needs to get under it and check everything out - bouncing/shaking front end may not be safe!

1. transmission mount. Or any other power train mount that controls PT axial displacement during acceleration
2. shudder at take off. Either same cause as above or inner CV joint(s) going bad.
So it's time for LONG handle narrow pry bar and moving engine/transmission, prefrably on a lift, with it. Watching them mounts same time.

Thanks so much. Sounds like it will cost a lot to fix.

Not necessarily. Regardless, I would have it checked out because it could be a safety hazard.

Naahh. KIA parts should be cheap and it's not that hard to do. I replaced all mounts on son's Civic for $170 plus my labor.
