I recently had my clutch replaced and a lightweight single mass flywheel installed by my mechanic. He didn't install the belly cover correctly and it broke off of my car on the highway (I saw it fly 20 feet into the air in my rearview mirror), luckily no cars were behind me. since then (about 3 weeks) I haven't had it replaced, figuring that most cars don't have them so I wouldn't need it. Unfortunately, I've hit 2 major potholes since and definitely bottomed out. Now it rattles like mad at idle, and when I take off or take slow turns it rattles the whole car very violently and makes awful noises. I haven't had a look under it and I'm done paying 125 an hour to the shop, so I'm going to attempt to do this myself. A diagnosis is what I'm mainly looking for, but any advice is welcome.

You have the eyes and car in your possession, we would only be guessing what might have happened when you bottomed out on those pot holes.

Take a look and tell us what you see then we might be able to help!

As stated above you need to get under the car and see if you can figure anything out. Don't forget safety stands if you crawl under it when it's jacked up. If you can post a pic or two that might allow us to see what is going on. How to insert pictures.

Why didn't you take it back to the shop right after the guard came off? it should have been his responsibility to replace it.

 

I agree that your best option is to return to the shop.
Even if you get a reasonably accurate repair suggestion replacing the clutch would require you at the least to remove the transmission to properly examine damaged components.
