great invention

There may be or have been commercially available items like this, but I'm not familiar with them. When I did my own oil changes I bought all kinds of wrenches and catch basins. Wish I had this back then. What a great invention.

I suspect it would only work for a limited line of vehicles. It wouldn't fit on some of the modern day engines.

You're probably correct. I haven't been under a car in years and don't even know what today's engines look like under all that cowling.

Does not work on filters set horizontally. Also, ironically, they have Subaru filter in picture - and those are set vertically up on engine top. About the best filter location ever. With catch pan of a sort around it.
It's a narrow use gimmick.
