Do I Need to Top off my Transmission Fluid?

My local Valvoline did a transmission flush, and said they were only putting 5 quarts back in because that's what they took out (company policy they said). I asked another Valvoline to top it off while I as there getting my tires rotated a different day. They said the first Valvoline should have done that. And to take it back to them.

Google says I need 10 quarters. Is this risky running it half low if I don't go back right away?

 

might try to look up how to check it or see an independent shop and have them check the level since most do not have a dipstick any more but they will have a procedure to fill it to correct level.
depending on what type of flush they did they may of not really gotten any fluid out of the torque convertor witch often holds a lot of fluid if they just added an additive and dropped the pan per example they will often only get around half the fluid out.
most flushing machines actually change out all the fluid but they hook into the cooler line and the fluid is changed out that way which does change out all the fluid.

 

Transmission require specific fluid quantiles, over filling can damage the transmission.

Doing a simple flush does not drain the entire trans, there is fluid throughout that will not readily flow out thus their statement about partially refilling sounds plausible. Adding 5 more quarts could be asking for trouble! sounds correct.

 

If you were 5 quarts low, I doubt you would have gotten any movement.

 

Make and model of vehicle ? Does it have a transmission dipstick ?

 

2018 Chevy Equinox. They said they put 5 back in, Google says I need 10. That's all I know

 

There is no dip stick, just a check plug.
