1983 Olds Delta 88 Stuck Gas Gauge

Have 83' olds delta 88 brougham royale with the 307 gas engine, gas gauge would not go past 1/3 full and car had been sitting for 20+ years. So I replaced sending unit, filled the gas tank back up and still have the same issue, the gauge moved but it will not go past 1/3 full.

Looking for some help on next issues or areas to focus on to get the gas gauge working again.

Thank you,

Rob

Abut the only thing I can suggest at this point is to pull the instrument panel & replace the gauge itself. Obviously the gauge could have malfunctioned. Something inside the gauge could have broken, a screw could have fell out and jammed/blocked the needle from moving past a certain point, etc.

The gauge reads the signal from the sending unit so that would be the next logical place to look!

I wonder if there's an easy way to test like you can do with a temp gauge where you simply ground the sensor wire and see if the gauge pegs out. Recently had to troubleshoot the temp gauge in the wrecker that way (it was the sensor). Don't know if a fuel sender is a variable resistance ground like a temp sensor is, though, where that would work. Don't want to fry anything.
