Electric windows balk and need clear .6 mil plastic to cover

Before I can take my SUV into the shop, I'd like to have the .6 mil clear plastic and masking tape in the car just in case someone accidentally opens the window. I need enough for one window only. Thing is, everywhere I look, the "clear" plastic upon reading the fine print is "milky." Maybe I could live with that because the plastic would just be a bandaid until I get it into the mechanic, but is there actually clear .6 mil plastic? Or should I be satisfied with the milky version? (Any links appreciated.) Thanks.
PS. Any tips on how to do it will also be appreciated.

You can try some plastic that is used for insulating house windows in the winter, often called window insulator kits. This plastic is very clear and can even be shrunk with a hair dryer to make it smooth. I am not sure how it will handle driving around. YOu should be able to find it at most hardware stores and home centers. I find that 3M kits have the best tape.

Look at a fabric store or the fabric section of Walmart for clear vinyl. It comes in rolls and is available in different thicknesses and is clear.

Masking tape won't hold. You'll need something better. There is good old fashioned duct/duck tape, Gorilla tape, or tape used to attach and seal ducting (sold in the HVAC section of home centers). You could also get by with electrical tape though it's only sold in narrow rolls,

Wouldn't it be simpler to just put tape over the window button to prevent anyone from using it.

Tolyn Ironhand Thanks and thanks for the link. And, I hadn't thought of this yet because it's still warm here, but I'll be getting that kit for sure because I need it for two drafty windows.

Pilot Dane Thanks Dane. I have a Walmart nearby and plenty of electrical tape.

jrsick That looks like the best bet. Thanks.

marksr LOL I would say that's pretty brilliant. I will definitely do this for starters. Thanks.
