96 Neon fan goes on/off frequently

I have a 96 Dodge Neon with the 1.6L SOHC engine. After the car has warmed up the radiator fan will come on for 1-2 seconds, go off for 1-2 seconds and repeat this cycle indefinitely. It happens when the car is sitting and idling and seems to be worse when there is some other electrical load on the car (like the heater fan or lights). It doesn't seem to happen (or at least is not noticable) when the car is moving.

Help!

Check the fan switch/relay (the Chrysler dealer can furnish the location from their parts literature) and the level of coolant in the system. Also change the thermostat as a matter of course.

Neons have 2.0L engines (some exports had 1.8 liters) but never 1.6.
