control module

I have a 1989 chevy cavalier that I was told needs a new "control module" in the distributor. the price for this is about $130.00 at the auto parts store. would you recomend trying to get one from the junkyard? or does anybody know of any place online I can get an aftermarket one for cheaper? also how hard is this to change? thanks for any advice. No. Junkyard parts like this are just that. Junk.

Shop around to various parts stores to find out the best price on an ignition module, but the quality varies, so watch out.

This vehicle does not have a distributor. It is distributorless whether it is a 2.0 4 cylinder or 2.8 V6. The coils sit on the module.

Pick up a repair manual from your library or part store to guide you through testing and replacement of the parts.
