ANother Intermittent Electrical Problems with 1988 Nissan Maxima

I have a 1988 Nissan Maxima with Climate Control. For the last two Winters, the heater has become unreliable. Sometimes, you can get it to work by pressing various of the control buttons (such as for bi-level air-conditioning), but sometimes, nothing will make it produce heat. The dealer said that the control head(?) was bad and that it would cost more than a thousand dollars to replace. Can you tell me where the control head is and how I can access it? My experience with this car is that it has dirty electrical contacts and when they are cleaned, the part will begin to function normally again.

Whoa, mixed posts here .

Cavalier guy: You need to pick up a repair manual from the parts store or the library to guide you through your repair. It's a bit of a PITA on this car.

Maxima man: The head is the electronic control head which I cannot see being a 1000 bucks new even from Nissan. Try another dealer and ask for an exploded view of the control from the parts book and how it installs in the dash. Probably a couple of hundred for a new control. It's probably shot inside. A used one might work best. Try www.junkyarddog.com for a used one. I wouldn't put a grand into a 1988 Maxima

Another reason why I don't own foreign cars ....
