94 Buick ignition

My 94 Buick cranks well, but will not start.

Suspecting a faulty coil, I removed an ignition wire from where it is attached to one of six terminals on what appears to be an ignition module. I get no spark when holding the end of the ignition wire near its terminal on this module while cranking the engine.

Where IS the coil on this engine? What is the terminology and function of the ignition 'module'?

You removed the spark plug wire from the coil. The coil pack (or packs, depending on whether you have the Delco or Magnavox system) sits atop the module.

Best way to test for a misfire on a given coil is to install a "known good" spark plug wire on the suspect coil. Intsall a spark tester at the spark plug end of the wire & start the engine. If the spark tester fires, the coil is good.
