I have a 91 volkswagen jetta 1.8 gas eng.,it's the GL , I'm trying to install the spring clips at the base of the exhaust manifold and I can't seem to get them on as far as I can tell I am using the right gasket. Do I need a special tool? PLEASE HELP

Most times, spring loaded bolts are used and usually it just takes a couple of threads to get it started.

Not sure of your actual issue or question. Are you using VW parts? Hit the dealer's parts counter for a picture of how the original set up is configured.
