Might want to do a search here for posts on Taurus's and Sable's (same car). I just got through doing a timing cover gasket on my brother's '93 w/3.8L. Joe is right on the mark as usual; we've towed RUNNING Taurus/Sable's to the junk yard that had bad trannies that were not worth fixing and I'm talking cars with less than 50k miles on them.

Phew - Ford Taurus
I echo all the sentiments of the other posters about the Ford Taurus. I have a 94 Taurus GL with 169,000 + miles on it. It has a new transmission, rebuilt engine from the original block - at 164,000 and it still has problems. Temperature gauge is all over the place, coolant is "disappearing" but mechanic can't tell me why. Other things they forgot to mention - lousy air conditioning system. I am looking at $1500 to overhaul that. My other car was a 86 Camry which I put close to 200,000 miles on and the only major repairs I had done to it were two timing belts and three altenators. Never had a thermostat, radiator, transmission problem. Are you asking why I ended up with the Found On Road Dead (F.O.R.D.)? Let's just say to keep marital harmony.
