carb help revisited

Today I did 200 miles over the Sierra Madre Mountains and I have some additional info on what's been happening with my van. I am going to replace my fuel pump as soon as my friend gets back from the states. Going up a mountain in drive and stepping on the gas the van does not downshift automatically, only manually will it downshift, the trans was just replaced. I'm also getting about 11 miles to the gallon which I'm told is terrible, 85 dodge van 318ci 2v Thanks again guys.

About right for something this old and Chrysler of this vintage, but I do suspect you have carburetor issues at this point. Especially in the mountains. They are fuel pigs. These were never good on fuel from when they were new . Check the original EPA ratings for back when it was new and use that as a target...but it's not likely you're going to get near that.

As for the downshifting, make sure whoever did the transmission hooked up all the detent cables (if so equipped) correctly. Back to the guy that did the work and make him rectify it!

There was an early 80's Dodge van parked in my neighborhood last night. That thing STUNK of fumes. What a stinker! Yuck!
