exaust repair

hi my name is ed and i failed my inspection for exhaust and high NOx. i would like to repair this problem myself , but need some advise. my first question is the flex pipe is partialy loose from the header pipe can it be pushed back into place? if so wht holds it there? the O2 sensor is right in front of the flex pipe, could this be what is making the NOx reading high?
if the whole pipe must need to be replaced do you know any good online discount auto parts stores?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE HELP

We need to know what we are working on to help.

Also need to know how much you failed by.

Possible causes of high NOx (which means combustion temperatures are high):

Bad/inoperative EGR valve or system.
Disconnected, or bad air injection system.
Holes in the exhaust.

etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. When was the last time the vehicle saw a good tune up and all the filters changed? How about the O2 sensor?

Also, I suggest you pick up a repair manual from your local parts store or library to guide you through the repair.

Best bet for auto parts is to buy from your local parts store rather than online. The shipping negates most discounts you get.
