Subaru not starting
I have a 98 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5L 4-cyl automatic. 3 weeks ago I replaced the 3-year-old OEM battery to correct a no-start problem (engine would try to turn over but wouldn't). It ran fine until yesterday when the engine would not turn over at all. When the key is turned in the ignition, the dash lights (oil, check engine, etc) come on, but there's no noise at all of starting. It's like the key is in the Accessory position. After a few tries it starts right up without hesitation.
I've rechecked the battery connections; they're tight and uncorroded.
Thanks in advance for any help. This forum has always been a big help to me in the past.

It sounds like the starter, if the lights go on, but there is no cranking. Or it could just be a bad ignition switch. But if you had trouble starting before also, of if the engine turns over slower then usual even with a charged battery then the starter is to blame.

before shelling out big bucks on a new starter check the cable connection on the starter itself. had the same problem on a late model car just this last fall cleaned battery termnals put in a new battery and still had the same problem pulled the starter to have it checked and noticed some arcing on the terminals cleaned it up and had no problems since just was\isted $75 on a new battery
