more carb help
Rebuilt my carb a Holley 2280 and it runs fine, better than before but I have one of the old problems, the bowl drains overnight and gas must be poured in before it will start. I took it off again and JB welded the 3 holes that were pluged up and will reinstall this evening. I wonder if anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks

RE: MORE CARB HELP
YOU WOULD THINK IF THE GAS WAS LEAKING THROUGH THE CARB, IT WOULD BE FLOODED INSTEAD OF HAVING TO ADD MORE GAS TO GET IT STARTED, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN SETTING. YOU MIGHT CONSIDER THE FUEL PUMP, IT COULD BE BACK DRAINING THE FUEL BOWL.

Danc, would you please be a little more specific in what you're talking about? I'm not sure what back draining the fuel pump means. By the way the pump is mechanical. 85 Dodge van 318

Basically, is your fuel pump putting out significant volume? Correct pressure? Might have a defective one.
Chrysler fuel delivery and carburetion is the WORST among the big three.
We worked on a 1985 Ramcharger today. The fuel lines completely rotted away

re: carb help
MOST FUEL PUMPS HAVE AN INTERNAL CHECK VALVE TO HOLD THE FUEL AFTER THE PUMP STOPS WORKING. IF IT DOSEN'T HOLD, IT'S LIKE SUCKING ON A STRAW. IT WILL LET THE FUEL RUN BACK IN THE TANK AND IT WILL PULL ALL THE FUEL OUT OF THE CARB. THIS MAY NOT BE EXACT BUT IT'S THE BEST WAY I KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT. REPLACING THE PUMP HAS WORKED FOR ME IN A SIMULAR SITUATION. HOPE THIS HELPS.
