Cool 93 Merc Tracer trunk leak

My son's 1993 Mercury Tracer has a pretty bad trunk leak. He wants to use caulk to seal it, but I think there's gotta be a better way.
Is there?

need one guy in trunk and another outside with water hose. Determine if it is the gasket or a body seam. Unlikely it is the gasket unless it has been badly damaged. You did not give much info to work with. Is it coming in from the underside of the trunk.
If there is a hole, anywhere underneath, vacuum will pull the water in.

Probably a squished gasket or a misaligned body panel.

Do as Darrell stated.

Does www.alldata.com show any bulletins for this? Check.

Thank you both-we'll try it. Water is coming in from above and soaking trunk liner, and since the back seat folds down it often gets wet too.
Thanks again!
