96 gmc suburban won't start

I have already had charging system check out, it is okay. I also tried a new starter. When moving the battery cable it tried to start on its own, without a key. What causes this?

Sounds like a bad or loose positive battery cable grounding out and firing the solenoid.

Start there and let us know what you find.

later model GM trucks have a history of ignition switch's going bad....check the link's on Joe's signature page for Technical Service Bulletins on this problem.....probably end up replacing your switch.....
