Neutral Safety Bypassed

Neutral Safety Bypassed
I drive a 1990 Ford F-150 Pick-up Truck with the inline 4.9 Liter 6 cylinder engine and manual 5-speed transmission. About six months ago I had to have my neutral safety switch (clutch interlock switch according to Chilton's) replaced. I had recently been having problems with the new one so I disconnected it, modified the old switch into a bypass, and hooked it up instead. It works fine. Are there any dangers to doing this besides the possibility of starting the vehicle while it is in gear?

No problems, just the safety issue, which could be a big one. If you learned the proper/safe way to start a stick and push the clutch down RELIGIOUSLY when starting, no problem. Unfortunately, lots of people just put the shifter in neutral and crank away (these drivers are related to the people with auto trans that use right foot for gas and left for brake and then drive through fronts of stores, etc when their brains tell them to push down with the wrong foot). As long as you never let someone like that drive it, no problem.
