Squealing Noise

My car, 1998 Honda Civic, 48K miles recently squealed when I started it. But it stops when it's running. I just had the belts replaced last year. Is it time to change them again? Why do they make that noise anyway? Thanks.

All of what's mentioned here, as well as:

Poor quality belts. They will stretch over time and give a lot of woes. Stick with Dayco, Gates, or OE replacements.

Squealing Noise

Thanks for the input. Belts were bought from a Honda dealer but were installed by a repair shop. Would that make a difference? The noise is about a second then it stops.

Make sure the tension is correct if they are not of the serpertine/self tensioning variety.

Back to the repair shop to have them fix it right.
