Is Armor all bad for your dash??

We purchased a house with a wood burning stove in a corner of our basement. Concrete blocks were installed between the existing wood paneling and the stove - a precaution against fire/excess heat I suppose - but it is very ugly! I'd like to paint the blocks, but I don't know if that is a good idea with such a heat source close by. Any thoughts about whether I should go ahead with painting? What type of paint should be used? Any other easy and economical solutions to the problem?

I heard that if you stop using it, your dash will crack? Any truth to this. I have a new truck and all I do to the dash is dust it with a California Duster.

No, it is fine. Use it regularly. Use the low gloss stuff.
