spider gear removal

84 chevy 4 by 4 1/2 ton pickup, 208-c transfer case, 700 r 4 trans, 305 motor and a 3.07 12 bolt posi-trac. rear end. the differential is not a "limited slip" differential. my question is where can i purchase the tools to remove the roll pin and the locking components, "wich are press in" so i can remove the spider gears for inspection and cleaning. iwould like the part number and the brand for the tools.

Try contacting Rieder Racing.com. This there cup of tea so to speak. If they don't have the tools they probably can tell you where.

Get the GM service manual before you go any further .

It will have the complete R&R procedure of the rear axle.

Kent Moore Borroughs for one company supplies GM dealers with their tools. Other companies (Lisle, Craftsman, Snap On, KD, etc) make their versions in some cases.

My rule of thumb:

If it's not worth spending the dough for a GM book, it belongs on the back of a hook to the heap yard .

The detail in those manuals will blow you away .
