Gas in the motor oil is a blown fuel pump diaphragm.

Rectify that first and go from there.

If fuel pump replace does'nt work, try setting floats and/or replacing float valve seats in carb. Is '53 a flathead or overhead valved engine???

don't forget to change the oil when you fix the fuel pump

My 52 Jimmy was an OV engine (6 Cyl). How much gas in the oil are we talking about? Does it put the oil level on the stick way above the full mark? Does it just smell gassey? What is your point gap set at? What is your timing set at? Has the Distributor been out lately? Did this just start? Do you have a compression gauge? Please give us as much info as you can.
