Emmissions Control, We have a problem

Ive got a 1996 Nissan 200 SX 1.6L. Just turned 100K mi. Within the last two months I've replaced the alternator (twice) and the water pump. Now the check engine light comes on. What next!? Something with the Emissions Control System. The only symptom is when I have the cruise control on, every once in awhile the car starts to sputter and loses power. I have to turn off the cruise control and the car runs fine again. That's it. Car seems to run great otherwise. Any ideas?

Rent/purchase a scanner or code reader and find out what the cause of the light is. That will lead you to the problem.
