Ranger truck problem

When i shut my truck off there is a humming sound that is coming from inside the gas tank, i figured it is the inertia fuel switch. It sometimes stays on for hrs unless i tap the top of the fuse box under the hood to shut it off. Any thoughts. I did check all the fuses, all good. P.S. I have had my ranger for 11yrs and have had only minor repair needs. Thanks all.

Might be a stuck fuel pump relay or it could be something with the inertia switch circuit

Take the dash things out of the way and have a look there.

If tapping on the box under the hood stops the humming, you probably have a sticking fuel pump relay, like Joe said. The relays' position should be marked on the underside of the power distribution center cover.
