1984 Dodge Caravan SE

Travelling along the highway one day I heard a pop come from the tailpipe and then my van died. It started again with very little difficulty but then seems to lose power quickly and then died again. I have been told that the timing chain disengaged or it could be electrical. Which is it??please!!!!

Could be either, need to get into the problem more and do some tests.

Check my post "The Basics" and the links shown below for some ideas.

Be careful about spending too much green on an old Chrysler minivan like this. 1984 had two winner choices of an engine, a 2.6 or a 2.2. Both were lackluster and troublesome.

Thumbs up lackluster and troublesome

Two very polite ways of saying the engines offered by Chrysler in 1984 were JUNK.

Spent timing chains/belts, worn camshafts, clogged catalytic convertors, etc. are very common in this model year.

What engine is in your van?

Knuckles:

He states 1984, so it would be a 2.2 vin C with the Holley 2 bomber, I mean barrel or the 2.6 vin G with all its all burning fury and knocking .
