Alternator problem update, still ???

Since my last post I have had 2 automotive stores check my charging system and both state it is good and well within normal parameters as far as charging voltage/amperage. Guage is reading normal however the battery idiot light is still on. Any guesses as to why it would stay on? 92 Ford Aerostar 3.0L w/air. The battery is less than 3wks old. Thanks

Could be a stuck diode in the alternator or you have a wire loose or missing/burned through setting the light on.

Try doing the output test for your charging system listed in my post "The Basics" below and tell us what you've got with that.

I agree...I've had alternators tested at parts places, and they say it's good, but their machine didn't pick up on the fact that there was a bad diode. More than once I bought an alternator on faith in my diagnosis, not their machine. I was right, and this may be the case in your situation, or you could also have a short in the wiring to the light like Joe mentioned.
