86 Isuzu Pup

Got a good one here. 5-speed manual won't go into 5th and starts kicking and bucking at 45 mph. Just installed a used tranny I know is alright and all hookups appear ok. There is no tps on this model. Now what!!
All help appreciated.
Thanks'
John

Condition of the clutch? Might be staying engaged or hanging up.

Did you change the pressure plate, disc, and throwout bearing when you swapped the tranny. If you didn't start there. Also is the cable or slave cylinder working right?

Barring that, might have engine, not tranny troubles too.

Do you mean won't shift into fifth physically?
Or, do you mean that it will not accelerate after shifting into fifth?

Put in Clutch, pressure plate and bearing. All shift ok except it won't physically shift into 5th. I am changing the fuel filter tomorrow ( I live on a dirt road ) to see if maybe the fuel will only run so far.
Thanks guys,
John

If you can't physically get it to go into gear, that's a linkage/internal transmission issue. The shifter won't go into 5th gear?
