Door Panel removal

I need to know how to remove a door panel (interior) from a 96 Nissan pickup SE while it is jammed shut. We can't get it open but in order to get to the lock the door panel must come off. Any suggestions?

Tough one as you have to get into the corner where the lock is.

Positive it's jammed?

Rick,

He states it's jammed shut. I"m assuming that means the latch is bent or both the inside and outside door mechanisms/opening systems are inoperable.

In such case a slimjim will not help .

they said they have to get to the lock mechinism to open the door. so it sounds like the lock is broken. probably the rod to the lock cylinder or door release.

---Above is the original post.

To me that sounds like the door is jammed shut, not locked shut.

Only the original poster can tell us what the problem is .

Could mean the latch/lock assembly.

Again, need more information from the original poster to help .

It is absolutely jammed. Can we take the door panel off from the inside? Aren't there clips that hold the door panel in? Do we have to remove the arm rest from the door first? If we remove the arm rest will there be an opening there that maybe we can reach up inside or at least see inside?

Can you get in from one side?

If you can, you might have to take the seat out and then you should be able to take the door panel off closed.

You can then try to unhook it and see if it will free up. Spray liberally with WD40 to free anything up.

I have NEVER had this problem with any of my GM's. Nissans locks must be made of gum .

To remove the door panel, remove any exposed screws, and check for any hidden ones. Remove the arm rest. If the window is manual, you will need to remove the window crank also. It should have plastic clips that can be removed by carefully prying on the door panel. It may be difficult to remove with the door closed, but once you remove the door panel, you will be able to examine the lock rods, etc.
