What tools do I need to take out my alternator?My car is a 86 chevy caprice.

Can't answer your question in regards to what sizes exactly, but all you need is some basic hand tools(ratchet, sockets, wrenches, and a pry bar to tighten the alternator).

Disconnect the battery first! Negative side first!

You don't mention the engine size, so as Chad says it depends.

You'll need most likely a good set of metric and standard wrenches and rachets and a basic multimeter to check the output of the new unit when you are done.

Most common hand tools found in any DIY guys toolbox should do.
