86 Nissan truck stalls after warmed up, won't start for 10 min's
I bought an 86 Nissan 720 Pickup last year with 130k miles on it to use in the Northeast winter. It has the Z24 inline 4 cylinder motor ( eight spark plugs), carbureted, 4 wheel drive, 5 speed. When its started getting cold it would stall at idle when the engine was cold. But I could restart it and just keep my foot on the gas to keep the idle up. Once it was warm it was fine. But now it has started dying while driving along. Not neccesarily while idling. All of a sudden it just quits. I can't restart it for 10 minutes. I recently hooked up a bunch of disconnected vacum lines and it seemed to fix the problem. The lines were disconnected when I bought it, and since the truck ran fine I didn't think they were a problem. But now the problem has resurfaced. I can see fuel squirting in the carb when this happens, so I don't think fuel is the issue. I don't know how old the plugs, wires, coil, ditrib cap are. The previous owner replaced the inline fuel filter recently. I think there is a filter in the electric fuel pump that is probably original. But its getting fuel OK. I had a new O2 sensor put in to pass state emissions test when I bought it. It runs very rich when cold.

When it dies, do you have spark? Check the links/posts in my signature file for some ideas. Tell us what you have.
If you have to let it cool down before starting again, that's usually ignition troubles.
Assume it's been a long time before the last tune up. Pitch all the tuneup stuff for new stuff to rule it out. Why Nissan uses 8 spark plugs and weird caps is beyond me...zero benefit, much more trouble than what it is worth (supposedly for better combustion...lol.)

Yup.
May have to check spark at both the intake and exhaust plugs on this winner.
If you have spark on neither, I suspect an igniter or bad ignition components.
Get ready for headaches with this ignition system, unfortunately. It wasn't very good, and Nissan dropped it after using it for only a few years. I think it's pesky and complex for no reason. Four plugs is fine for a four cylinder car .
