u have 2 choice
1 If your car is standard lower the engine with the transmission and the suspension altogether
2 if your car is automatic I will leave the transmission in the car and only take the engine out.

Not to sound terrible, but it's a decent amount of effort and the vehicle may not be worth repairing.

A 1988 Escort is far from a home run of a small car and considering the engine is transverse and packed in there pretty good, you're talking probably a full day's work (maybe longer) for a novice to do.

That being said, why are you replacing the motor? Is the rest of the car in good shape? Might not be a worthy candidate for a motor replacement.

Either way, a fair amount of work, be it a standard or automatic equipped vehicle.
