Tail light assembly replacement

As a real auto rookie (ie excuse my "thingie and deal" type language, I am trying to replace the tail light assembly on the family van.

I removed the two screws, got the three bulbs out, but now the power plug is left. I can't seem to remove it? Is there a special way to turn it (like for the bulbs) or should I just pin my ears back and pull it out with a pliers?

Thanks in advance!

The type of vehicle would help.

Most sockets twist out counterclockwise to remove from the lamp.
