95 pontiac trans sport oil leak

got an oil leak on 95 trans sport. 3.8L engine. seems to be leaking from the drivebelt area which i guess would mean a main seal. i know it's expensive but could someone give me an idea how much if it is the main seal?

unrelated update: i posted a little while ago about a stalling problem on a 92 olds cutlass supreme. the consensus was a faulty TCC solenoid. I un-plugged it and haven't had a problem since and the loss in gas mileage isn't that great. Thanks for the info. Reading the boards, this seems to be a common problem. i can't believe GM never addressed it.

The part is cheap. It's all labor. Probably around 300 bucks or so.

Check the links in my signature file if you want to try it yourself.

The TCC problem is common, but not enough to warrant a bulletin.

Remember, it took Ford a while to acknowledge head gasket woes in their 3.8 engine and they are still not fully fessing up in my belief on all models with the problem.

As Joe F says if it is the seal they can be replaced easily.
Just pull off the pulley, pop out the seal and replace.
As far as the TCC solenoid it's like any electrical part in a high temperature fluid filled area. They aren't going to last forever so you can't put a bulletin out on normal wear.

Transmission leak

As with any rubber oil seal leak, I would try some SealLube seal Expander. It seems to work. Info at www.newtintl.com

I wouldn't suggest any additives. They just cause more problems down the road.
