Check Eng. Light- GMC
I have a '93 GMC van 5.7L V8, throttle body injection, VIN K, auto trans. Every 2 or 3 days on my very routine route to work, the CHECK ENGINE SOON light comes on. It occurs at the same place in the trip after about 15 min. driving. When I jumber the test outlet to read the error code, it flashes 12 several times and then flashes 23 several more times. What does this mean? This never occurs on the way home nor when the vehicle is driven on other trips, although it has not been driven for more than 45 minutes at a time since this started occuring. The vehicle seems to be running well. I recently replaced a thermostat that was stuck open.

Check the links in my signature file for some ideas on what the codes mean.
Knuckles website at www.batauto.com is the best resource for determing what the codes mean.

Check Engine Light- GMC
1993 GMC Van 5.7L, VIN K...
I have checked sites for the error code given by the computer in my van. The error reads for error number 23:
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Temperature Out Of Range, Low or Open or Grounded M/C Solenoid Feedback Carburetor System
What does this mean? Is a sensor bad. How do I go about fixing it? Once the light goes on , it stays on until the next time I drive it. It does not come back on the next time it is started and may stay off for several days.

You don't have a mixture control solenoid since your vehicle is not carbureted. It's throttle body fuel injected.
That being said, it points to fault in the air intake sensor/air charge sensor. It's usually fairly cheap at an auto parts store. However, I do not believe this unit uses that.
You might look again at the links in my signature file and see how to check problems with the sensors. You could have issues with the MAP sensor too.
Additionally, some GM trucks have an air cleaner sensor mounted in the throttle body (My grandparent's TBI Cavalier does).
Look on your underhood decal that shows all the emission controls for a sensor that matches this problem. Then check that for fault as well as the wiring to it.
