ran out of gas

help - I ran out of gas coming home - I biked to the gas station - and put a gallon in but now it still won't start - it is a '99 Oldsmobile - I have the feeling that something needs to be primed to get it sucking up the gas again but not sure what.

shouldnt need primed if you are certain that you ran the vehicle out of gas you could of damaged the fuelpump but you may want to put more than 1 gallon of gas in the tank i would put two more gallons of gas in the vehicle if it doesnt start then you should see about having the fuel pressure tested and fuel pump electrical circuit tested to see if it is for sure a bad fuel pump.

I agree with BeJay. Start by putting more fuel into it (Like 5 gallon or so) and see if it starts. If it doesn't you likely wiped out the pump

Running out of gas on a modern car is bad business. It will damage the fuel pump. There is no benefit to running a car low on fuel. You starve the pump for lubrication and cooling by doing that. Fill up at a 1/4 of a tank .
