Throttle Response

I have a 1994 C/K 3500 Chevrolet pickup with the 6.5 diesel engine. Occasionally when I push the throttle the engine does not respond immediatly. Sometimes when in reverse it will not respond at all. The other day my wife had taken it to town and could not get it to backup away from the curb. I had to put it in 4wheel low to get it to backup. When I did this the throttle reponded. Could it be a dirty throttle reastat, and how do I disassemble it to check or clean it?

It was 90 degrees here yesterday and the problem was worse. I know now that a sensor is giving me trouble when it is hot. Hasn't anyone experienced this problem and know which sensor is the likely cause.
