GMC Truck Starting Problem

This is a 1980 GMC Crewcab with a 454. I have a new starter and solonoid that I have double checked and both work fine.

Problem is turning the key will turn on power but will not get power to solonoid to turn over the starter. Replaced the ignition switch on top of the steering column and that didn't do it. I know there is a "neutral switch" somewhere but I don't know where. Somehow the power is not getting to the starter when I turn the key (you can start it just fine by connecting the terminals on the solonoid).

Any Ideas??

manual or auto trans?

If you have an auto trans, the neutral safety switch should be mounted on the base of the steering column, 6 inches or so from the firewall.

If you have a manual trans, look for a clutch safety switch near the top of the clutch pedal.
