Same thing as my other question, just asking the signs of these failures to broaden my knowledge abit.
But I was thinking that since I had that pressure modulator valve prob months back which was dumping tranny fluid into my engine and causing it to smoke that I might soon need a new CC......
Learning a little and keeping an eye out at the same time... thanks for your help and patience with us noobs...
Ill help you with a computer prob one of these days.

You can buy exhaust backpressure testers that will check for exhaust restrictions.
That being said, I believe SnapOn or one of the other better tool companies makes a temperature probe that could be used to check converter efficiency.
If it's wiped, you likely have rattling pieces inside from the core breaking up. Rap on the converter with the engine off and the exhaust cold with your fist. If you hear pieces clanging around in there, the converter has broken up...it's wiped.

call around to exhaust shops and see what they charge to check an exhaust for a restriction, alot of exhaust shops will around my location will pressure test an exhaust system for free, but they are hoping you will do the repair there if it does test bad.
on obd 2 vehicles with a code of reduced cat effeciency is also an indication of a bad catylitic convertor and the vehicle may run great but will cause a check engine or service engine soon light.

If you know the right people. Someone can do like a roto
rooter to the converter (cleaning it out) and it will be free of carbons. There are some fuel cleaning items at dollar stores that could do a temporary clean out. You just need to read the bottle specifications stating exhaust clean or
fuel injector cleaner.
