power steering pump

the power steering pump on my 1991 f-150 351 eng. has a leak. is there a repair kit o is it necessary to replace it. If so what would be the correct way to go about removing and replacing it. i would appreciate some advice on this. thanks , john

Ford P/S pumps typically leak from either the reservoir o-ring or the shaft seal.

If the o-ring is leaking, you can replace it. It takes a whopping 15 minutes to do this job. A seal kit is available from both Ford and aftermarket suppliers. The kit will come with a whole bunch of seals, but you'll only need the big o-ring.

If the fluid is leaking from the shaft seal, you'll be better off replacing the pump with a QUALITY reman. unit.
